DAY 1:
– A fifteen-minute walk. From the Kijowska 06 stop, we walk along Kijowska Street and turn left onto Brzeska Street, where we can already see typical buildings of Praga and chapels—its symbols. Then we turn left onto Ząbkowska Street
– Breakfast at Caffee&Bistro Galeria Sztuki (8 a.m.–9 a.m.)
– A forty-minute walk along Ząbkowska Street and then Kawęczyńska Street in further search of Christian chapels, admiring the architecture of Praga and its contrasts between modern and old buildings
• Szmulki – knitted decorations on Kawęczyńska Street, which are created every year as part of a neighborhood campaign. Road posts are transformed into real works of art using yarn (9 a.m.–9:40 a.m.)
– From the Kawęczyńska-Bazylika 01 stop (next to Michał and Maria Radziwiłł Square), take tram no. 28 towards Os. Górczewska; get off at the Ząbkowska 04 stop. Turn left onto Stefana Okrzei Street and keep walking straight until you reach the footbridge
– Pedestrian and bicycle footbridge – a modern footbridge connecting both banks of the Vistula River and offering beautiful views of the city (10:20 a.m.–10:35 a.m.)
– A twenty-minute walk along the Vistula River, along Kościuszkowskie Coast Street; turn left behind the Museum of Modern Art; walk along Lipowa Street; and turn right onto Dobra Street
– Botanical Garden on the roof of the University Library – a unique place where you can relax surrounded by various plants and admire panoramic views of Warsaw (11:55 a.m.–1:00 p.m.)
– A fifteen-minute walk to Castle Square, the central point of the Old Town
– A walk through the Old Town (1:15 p.m.–2:00 p.m.), where you can admire, among others:
• The Royal Castle in Warsaw – an impressive residence of Polish kings, whose interiors amaze with their richness
• Column of Sigismund III Vasa – a column commemorating the king who moved the capital of Poland from Cracow to Warsaw. It is one of the oldest secular monuments in Poland, constituting a characteristic landmark of the city
• The Wishing Bell – an extraordinary attraction in the Old Town, known for the legend of fulfilling wishes. Just walk around the bell three times, making a wish, and it should come true
• Old Town Square – the heart of historic Warsaw, where you can admire colorful tenement houses and the symbol of the city, the Warsaw Mermaid
• Barbican – a medieval fortification that once protected the city from invasions. Today, it is an important monument of defensive architecture and a popular place for tourists to walk
• St. Anne’s Academic Church – a historic temple with a beautiful Baroque interior. The church tower offers panoramic views of the Old Town and Krakowskie Przedmieście
– Lunch at the Zapiecek restaurant, which has been delighting tourists and residents of the capital with Polish cuisine for many years (2 p.m.–3:30 p.m.)
– We walk straight along Krakowskie Przedmieście, passing the square and the monument of Adam Mickiewicz on the left, then (also on the left) the Presidential Palace. We continue straight ahead, admiring Nowy Świat. On the left, we pass the gate of the University of Warsaw, and then on the right, the Zamoyski Palace with a commemorative plaque of a Polish poet, Cyprian Kamil Norwid (3:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m.)
– We continue straight ahead and turn right to the Nowy Świat–Uniwersytet metro station. We go towards Bemowo and get off at the Świętokrzyska. We get off, go straight ahead, and then turn left
– Palace of Culture and Science, observation deck with an entrance from Marszałkowska Street – the tallest building in Poland, a symbol of the city, and a testament to socialist realist architecture. Its interiors contain numerous theaters, cinemas, museums, and an observation deck, from which there is a spectacular view of the whole of Warsaw (4:20 p.m.–5:20 p.m.)
– A twenty-minute walk from the Palace of Culture and Science, we go in the same direction from which we came, we go along Świętokrzyska Street straight ahead, then turn onto Królewska Street and then onto Stanisława Małachowskiego Square
– Zachęta – National Gallery of Art – one of the most important places on the cultural map of Warsaw, presenting the latest achievements of Polish and international contemporary art. The gallery organizes numerous exhibitions, workshops, and meetings with artists, constituting a dynamic center of artistic life (5:40 p.m.–7:30 p.m.)
– After leaving Zachęta, we go left and cross the street, turn right, go straight ahead, and then left onto Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego Square
– The Saxon Garden (7:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m.)
• Piłsudski Square – a place that plays an important role in Polish history and public life. It is a space where numerous national and social ceremonies take place, including celebrations of national holidays
• The tomb of the Unknown Soldier – a symbolic monument commemorating all unknown soldiers who died in defense of Poland. The Changing of the Guard ceremony attract many tourists and residents, giving their tribute to the heroes
• The Great Fountain – one of the oldest and most spectacular fountains in Warsaw. It was built in the 19th century and is a popular place for meetings and relaxation
• The Temple of Vesta Water Tower – a neoclassical building that served as a water reservoir. It is an architectural gem of the Saxon Garden, inspired by ancient Roman temples
• The Boy and the Swan sculpture in the pond – a charming element of the Saxon Garden, depicting a boy in the company of a swan. Situated in the pond, the sculpture adds a romantic character to this picturesque corner of the park
– behind the pond, we leave the garden onto Aleksandra Fredry Street, turn right onto Wierzbowa, and then left onto Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego Square, where there is a bar on the left
– Ave Pegaz – a place inspired by the works of the poet Julian Tuwim, perfect for a drink and eating typical Polish dishes. You get a poem with your order
DAY 2:
– Breakfast at Bułkę by Bibułkę | Puławska (8 a.m.–9 a.m.)
– A half-hour walk through Morskie Oko Park, known for its picturesque alleys, ponds, and old trees; the historic Szustrów Park, surrounding the Szuster Palace, and Promenada Park, then turn right onto Belwederska Street
– Poetry Exchange Point – you can read poems left by others, take one with you, and leave your own (9:30 a.m.–9:50 a.m.)
– A fifteen-minute walk along Belwederska Street, turn onto Jurija Gagarina Street
– The Royal Baths Park – a walk through the gardens (10:15 a.m.–12:00 p.m.)
• New Orangery – an elegant 19th-century building that served as a winter garden for exotic plants
• Bust of Stanisław Wyspiański – a monument commemorating the outstanding Polish artist, playwright, and painter
• Amphitheatre – a picturesque open-air stage inspired by ancient Greek and Roman theatres
• Palace on the Island – also known as the Palace on the Water, is a pearl of classicist architecture, surrounded by a pond. It served as the summer residence of King Stanisław August Poniatowski and is one of the most beautiful monuments in Warsaw. It was here that King Stanisław August Poniatowski organized his famous Thursday dinners
• Chinese Garden – an exotic part of the park, designed in the style of traditional Chinese gardens
• Cyprian Kamil Norwid Monument – a commemoration of one of the most outstanding Polish poets and thinkers
• Belweder Palace – a classicist palace, is the seat of the Board of the People’s Council
• Fryderyk Chopin Monument – a monumental sculpture commemorating the great Polish composer and pianist
– Chopin concert – a cyclical event held on Sundays that offers performances by talented pianists playing the works of Fryderyk Chopin. The concert takes place at the Chopin Monument (12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.)
– A fifteen-minute walk along the park from the side of Aleje Ujazdowskie Street, passing the monument of Henryk Sienkiewicz. Turn right when the park ends at Aleje Szpitala Ujazdowskiego Street
– Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art – an important place on the map of contemporary art in Warsaw, located in a restored castle. It offers exhibitions, artistic projects, and workshops that promote the innovative approaches and works of artists from all over the world (1:15 p.m.–2:45 p.m.)
– A fifteen-minute walk along Strehla Square, we reach Górnośląska Street
– Lunch at Diverso Ristorante Italiano (3:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m.)
– A ten-minute walk along Piękna Street, turn left into Ujazdowski Park or Aleje Ujazdowskie Street and reach the Plac na Rozdrożu 01 stop. We take bus 116 towards Wilanów and get off at the Wilanów 07 stop
– A five-minute walk along Przyczółkowa Street, then Cendrowskiego Street
– Wilanów – a palace complex with gardens that was the summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski. The Palace and its surrounding gardens delight with their baroque architecture and carefully planned green spaces, creating a majestic place full of history and elegance (5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.)
– Shakespeare in the Park – an annual theater event held in July in the gardens of the Wilanów Palace. Audiences can enjoy William Shakespeare’s works performed by actors in the open air, in the picturesque surroundings of the park. The performance starts at 19:30, it’s only in Polish, but it is worth seeing a little bit just for the experience. Looking at the Palace from the entrance, the place of the performance is behind the Palace, on the left side (7:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m.)
